2005 TVR Sagaris
The one TVR got right eh, well, that bloke off the telly isn’t far wrong. The small changes made to the Sagaris all add up to make a big difference, so not only does it look unlike anything ever made, even by TVR, it handles unlike anything else ever made too. It is as good to drive as it is to simply behold. Don’t listen to your mate Dave at the pub, who’s mate’s, postman’s, dog’s aunty had one and it handled so badly, she hit a tree and it then caught fire, because all that pub talk is nonsense, these cars are up there with the very finest machinery from the very best manufacturers, if not for me even better. Way rarer than any Ferrari you’re likely to buy for similar money, more alive and a million times cooler, let alone cheaper to own, run and maintain, name something you don’t like there! Plus, you don’t see anything else with paint like this – stunning doesn’t begin to cut it.
Inside is a usual TVR fayre, all custom made around you, the driver. Billet alloy pedal box, personal steering wheel, TVRs own binnacle with all of your most wanted gauges at your fingertips, accessible through the hidden buttons behind the steering wheel (yes, they were pretty advanced by this stage!) and a full inbuilt roll-cage to offer you that safety too. The build finished with slash cut side exits, AP Racing brakes to retard the car at an alarming rate, the same way it takes off. All of this is fantastic, but it is the nail on the head chassis balance, that is almost indescribable. If you are even remotely tempted to try a different supercar, I implore you come and experience the joy of a Sagaris, unlike anything else and all the better for it…
On the road, ignoring the mileage, this is the best late TVR we have ever had the pleasure of driving. Which is really saying something, as we are lucky enough to drive a lot of TVRs and more “exotic” material here, but this has just taken the top spot as my favourite ever drivers’ car and there is absolutely nothing you could look to improve upon mechanically. The geometry is perfect, tyres, brakes, engine, chassis. It is the halo car for TVR and this is as good as they get, in fact much better for the low owners and higher mileage, proving its reliability and testament to its maintenance keeping it at such a high standard. Comments so far have placed it visually as a 25k – 30k mile car, to give you an idea of the diligent ownership it has been lucky enough to reside in.
With a comprehensive full TVR service history, with its original bill of sale from Racing Green TVR and every invoice and service stamp since, you’ll be hard pushed to find a car with a better stack of history. The engine has had two rebuilds in its life, one early on at 35k miles with its first lady owner, then again at the start of its life with owner number two (of ten years), at 70k miles by the legend that is Jason Clegg at Str8six and has been cared for by his fair hand ever since too. With the last oil service being done in 2021 at 93,319 miles, including a new oil pressure sender, heater boxes and stepper motor cleaned out. The car also had 4 new Yokohama tyres earlier on in the year, along with another oil service (that is how well the car has been looked after)!
This car is so original and unmolested, it doesn’t even have the alloy indicator stalk covers, which I know we all love, but I think we can all appreciate the fact that all of the money spent on this car has been to make sure it is as good and as close to how it left the factory as physically possible. A true credit to its owners to this point.
With a frankly amazing 19 service stamps in the book, you can rest assured this car has had a better and more cosseted life than almost anything on the planet that has covered 94k miles, so don’t be put off by the mileage. As my Grandad always says; “it’s much better to keep the oily bits oily”, cars languishing and not moving does them no good at all & this exact car is the one that proves that theory. Come and drive it & find fault – I bet you can’t. Save yourself £10k or more on a low mileage one & get yourself a car you can actually use and enjoy with out feeling guilty for adding mileage to it. Drive it to the show, not trailer it (or worse, leave it at home).
With the US market due to be able to import these rare beasts soon, they are a very astute investment prospect too, as we’ve seen the values of similar cars jump drastically in recent years for the same reason, the 25 year rule means that as soon as they’re ready to go, we will see a huge exodus of cars from the U.K market, meaning rarity increases and thus does value, or you could keep it and keep on enjoying it – it’s even great just to stare at, so good in fact, we wonder whether that is partly why it was illegal in some countries!
Why not get the one you can actually enjoy and use all that extra cash on fuel to make some memories. After all, you’re not buying it for the next owner now are you…
