1975 Triumph Stag
The Stag! Of all of the classics on our roads, the Stag may well be the most iconic. Having starred in almost every big TV show and film in the 70’s, they rose to fame in 1970, thriving on the noise of the throbbing V8 engine, affordable price tag and promise of the jet-set lifestyle without having to step inside an aeroplane!
On the road, they are still an incredibly smooth grand tourer. Lovely soft suspension, a smooth auto box which shifts seamlessly and an open top for you to be able to hear the lovely burble of that world renowned V8.
This car has been a local car for many years, known and seen at many shows around the area, it has been well owned and loved over the previous years and it shows. Great panel gaps, superb mechanicals and a ride as good as any. A great entry into classic V8 ownership. Being an older restoration, the car is honest and presents very well, with very little to do if you wanted to take it to the next level.
During its life the car has had a couple of “re-births”, firstly in 1989, when it has a host of new panels and paintwork. Then again, it had a new LH sill amongst other work in 1997, suggesting a lot of love was given to get the car back on the road long-term. A huge sum of parts were ordered in 2004 looking like part of a much bigger job.
There are plenty of receipts in the file and MOT history to back up the car’s mileage to be genuine. Some tax discs are also present, showing that the car was predominantly on the road and in use as a high days and holidays car.
Notable recent work as follows should give the new custodian peace of mind to know that all they need to do is turn the key and enjoy this delightful British icon:
- 2009 – Diff bearings and seals replaced
- 2019 – Full service
- 2019 – New gearbox & torque converter fitted
- 2020 – Full service
- 2020 – Carbs tuned
- 2021 – New front shock absorber and drop link
The car has an almost brand-new soft top, power steering and a full stainless exhaust, a lot of boxes ticked. Add to that the fact that the car has an electric fan override switch just in case of any eventuality (it hasn’t got hot with us in traffic at all), all of the electrics work as you’d hope, even the arial! Quite an impressive car technically, matched with a cracking interior, it will be hard to beat.
To our mind, this is the ideal car, not so perfect that you’re too scared to use it, nor is it twice the price, but it drives, runs and feels fabulous. What’s not to love!
